Frog Symphony

Recorded primarily in one of La Selva Reserve's marshy swamps, this symphony of frog and insect calls boasts an impresive 5 species of amphibians. While a mischievous camen kept interrupting the recording with his thrashing about in the water, he finally settled down long enough to allow our trusty engineers to capture these fascinating dusk sounds.

Cloud Forest

A cloud forest's gentle stream begins the CD, immersing the listener in the soothing sounds from high up on the foggy mountain side of an extinct volcano. On the disc itself (beyond this excerpt) the water subsides, and the track develops into a misty calmness with individual critters slowly adding their voices to the landscape.

Howler in the Rain

"Howler in the Rain" was recorded quite by accident. After having spent the night secured 60 ft. above the ground in one of Guanacaste's oldest ficus trees, dawn began to break. However, instead of capturing the expected dry tropical forest bird chorus, a rainstorm swept through, waking a group of sleeping howler monkeys. I'm sure they were just as startled by us as we were by the proximity and volume of their "yawns."
